A One-day Workshop on Extra-Ordinary Teacher

Professional development — formal in-service training to upgrade the content knowledge and pedagogical skills of teachers — is widely viewed as an important means of improving teaching and learning.

 

Capacity Building of Teacher Educators was organized by Hindustan International school, Karapakkam for the faculty of Education discipline. The development of community, society, nation and universe is dependent on educational system. The holistic development of children of any nation is in the hand of teachers. School education has a symbiotic relationship with teacher education as teachers are the frontline providers of quality education. Sufficient supply of well qualified and well-trained teachers is the most important, if not the only, contributing factor of school effectiveness and quality of learning. With this paradigm shift from simplistic linear quantitative expansion to qualitative transformation in school education, the teacher education system in the country has increasingly emerged, during the last two decades or more, as an area of overriding concern. Quality is always demanded in field of Teacher Education. The main objective of the workshop was capacity building of teacher educators and school teachers and people working in the education discipline.

 

The programme started with welcome address by Ms.Iris Theodore, Principal of HIS,Karapakkam.

 

First session of the workshop started with brief introduction of the participants. The facilitator Ms.Ashiwarya, Neurologists delivered her talk on “Education as Creative Learning Process vs Professional way of Teaching”.

 

The second session was “Grooming session”. In the post lunch session the facilitator Mr.Senkuttuvan delivered his talk on “Grooming” and “Constructivist Approach in the Classroom Teaching” and the second session was activity session and “New ways adapted for Quality Teaching”. Last session of the programme was “Parenting the Teachers/ Teachers as Parent” which was taken by Dr.Arun Kumar, Psychiatrist. He mentioned the important aspect of teacher and teacher educators. He also pointed out the scenario of teacher educator , Parenting along with important quality of teacher and student. The Facilitators provided insights which were an eye opener for all participants.

 

HIS,Karapakkam teachers are regularly participating in such skill building workshops which equip them and sharpen their skills to become teachers that impact the lives of their students.
