Introduction

A Rabies Awareness Programme was conducted by Universal Relocations at Thiruvanmiyur Beach to create awareness among students about rabies, its prevention, and the importance of responsible pet ownership. Students fromGrades 4 to 8 participated actively in the programme. The session provided valuable information about rabies, timely vaccination, safe interaction with animals, and the precautions necessary to protect both people and pets.

Aim

The main objectives of the programme were to:

• Create awareness among students about rabies, its causes, transmission, and prevention.
• Emphasise the importance of timely rabies vaccination for pets.
• Promote responsible pet ownership and compassionate treatment of animals.
• Educate students about safe behaviour around domestic and stray animals.
• Encourage children to understand the importance of seeking immediate medical attention following an animal bite or scratch.

Programme

The programme was organised by Universal Relocations at Thiruvanmiyur Beach, with the participation of students from Grades 4 to 8. The session was designed to be both informative and engaging, helping children understand the
importance of preventing rabies and caring for animals responsibly.

The students learnt about how rabies spreads, the importance of vaccinating pets, and the necessary precautions to follow when interacting with animals. They were also educated about the need for immediate medical attention in the
event of an animal bite or scratch.

As part of the programme, chew toys were distributed to the children to promote awareness of appropriate pet care and the importance of providing pets with safe and suitable toys. This thoughtful gesture encouraged the students to
develop a sense of responsibility and compassion towards animals. The outdoor setting at Thiruvanmiyur Beach made the learning experience enjoyable and memorable.

Outcome

The programme helped students gain a better understanding of rabies prevention, animal safety, and responsible pet ownership. They learnt the importance of timely vaccination, safe interaction with animals, and taking appropriate action in case of an animal bite or scratch.
