4TH INTRA-SCHOOL CHESS TOURNAMENT

4th Intra-School Chess Tournament – 2024-25

The 4th Intra-School Chess Tournament, held on 9th November 2024 at Hindustan International School, Guindy, was a highly successful and competitive event, showcasing the strategic brilliance of our young chess enthusiasts. The tournament featured five categories based on age groups, with students from various grade levels competing against each other in a 5-round Swiss system format.

EVENT SCHEDULE:

  • INAUGURATION CEREMONY:
    The tournament was officially inaugurated at 9:00 AM by the Principal of Hindustan International School. In his opening address, the Principal highlighted the importance of chess as a game of skill, strategy, and patience. He encouraged the students to play with discipline, learn from each round, and enjoy the spirit of the competition.
  • TOURNAMENT START:
    The tournament matches commenced at 9:15 AM, with the participants battling it out in their respective categories. The five categories were:
  1. Under 8 Years
  2. Under 10 Years
  3. Under 12 Years
  4. Under 14 Years
  5. Above 14 Years

Each category had 8 participants, and all players competed in 5 rounds to determine the top players. The matches were played in a fair and competitive spirit, with players demonstrating excellent strategy, concentration, and sportsmanship.

SPECIAL GUEST AND   VALIDATORY   FUNCTION:

  • CHIEFGUEST:

The Valedictory Function began at 2:15 PM, and we were  honored to have Ms. PON N KRITHIKHA , Women International Master (WIM) and Asian Gold Medalist, as our esteemed Chief Guest for the ceremony. Ms. Krithikha is a distinguished chess player who has represented India at several prestigious international tournaments. Her presence added great value to the event, and her inspiring words motivated the students to continue pursuing excellence in chess.

  • Pon N Krithikha’s Address:
    During her speech, Ms. Krithikha commended the participants for their dedication and passion for chess. She encouraged the students to keep honing their skills, emphasizing that chess is not just a game but a tool for enhancing critical thinking, problem-solving, and concentration. Ms. Krithikha also shared her personal experiences in the world of competitive chess, inspiring the students to aspire for greatness both on and off the chessboard.

TOURNAMENT AWARDS AND RECOGNITION:

At the conclusion of the tournament, trophies were awarded to the top 4 players in each category, recognizing their hard work and exceptional performance:

  • Best Beginner Award: RITHURA S (Under 8)  HIS-KPKM
    Rithura’s  improvement and strategic play throughout the tournament earned him the Best Beginner Award.
  • Best Female Player Award: JEEVIKA    ANUKUMAR  (Under -8 )   HIS-PADUR
    Jeevika ‘s exhibited exceptional chess skills and strategic thinking, securing the Best Female Player Award.

OVER ALL SCHOOL AWARD:

OVER ALL -WINNERS HIS – Padur               108.5  points

Hindustan International School  -Padur   emerged as the Best Over all Winners School, with outstanding individual performances from its students in each category.

OVER ALL RUNNERS HIS – Guindy           101.5  Points

Hindustan International School – Guindy secured the runner-up position, displaying strong competition and remarkable performances.

THIRD PLACE HIS – Kpkm              65.5 Points

Hindustan International School – Kpkm completed the top three, with impressive results across all age categories.

CONCLUSION:

The 4th Intra-School Chess Tournament was a resounding success, with students showcasing their strategic thinking, intellectual skills, and sportsmanship. The event provided a platform for young chess enthusiasts to display their talent and learn valuable lessons in competitive play.

A special thank you to Ms. PON N KRITHIKHA, our Chief Guest, for inspiring the participants with her words of wisdom. The tournament also reinforced the school’s commitment to nurturing young minds and promoting intellectual games like chess, which contribute to the development of key life skills.
