80TH INDEPENDENCE DAY CELEBRATION

Objective
The objective of the Independence Day celebration was to instil a sense of patriotism, national pride and responsibility among students. The programme aimed to help students understand the significance of India’s independence, appreciate the sacrifices of freedom fighters and recognise their role as responsible citizens.

Programme
Hindustan International School, Guindy Block, celebrated the 80th Independence Day of India with great enthusiasm and patriotic spirit on 15th August 2026. The programme commenced with Tamil Thai Vazhthu. The Welcome Address was followed by the Flag Hoisting Ceremony, after which the National Anthem was sung with pride and respect. The students and staff then took the National Pledge, followed by Vande Mataram, reinforcing the values of unity, integrity and devotion to the nation.

The celebration continued with a Patriotic Speech in English by Layaa of Grade 10, highlighting the importance of independence and the responsibilities of citizens. A captivating Patriotic Dance by the children of Grade 10 and 11 added colour and energy to the celebration, followed by a Patriotic Speech in Hindi by Laksh of Grade 7A.

The school was privileged to have Mr. Antony R. Julian as the Chief Guest for the occasion. The Chief Guest was felicitated as a mark of respect and appreciation. He then addressed the gathering with an insightful and thought-provoking speech connecting history and warfare with modern-day cybersecurity and safety. He explained how warfare has evolved over the years, moving from traditional physical battles to sophisticated forms of cyber warfare. He emphasised that in today’s digital era, protecting information, systems and personal data is equally important for the safety and security of individuals and the nation. His address encouraged students to become more responsible, alert and digitally aware citizens.

This was followed by the Prize Distribution Ceremony for the Tricolour Contest, Hindustan Got Talent and Inter-House Chess competitions, recognising the achievements and participation of students.

The programme concluded with the Vote of Thanks delivered by Ashwanth of Grade 12, who expressed gratitude to the Chief Guest, school leadership, teachers, students and everyone who contributed to the successful celebration. The event concluded with refreshments.

Outcome
The celebration successfully fostered patriotism, national pride and responsible citizenship among the students. The Chief Guest’s address particularly helped students understand the connection between India’s history, changing forms of warfare and the growing importance of cybersecurity and digital safety. The event also encouraged students to value their freedom while recognising their responsibility towards the nation and society.
