Child Climate Change Activist
Ms Licypriya Kangujam the famous Climate Change Activist was in Chennai and gave an impassioned talk on the grim prospects of Climate Change and the need for everybody to join the movement to save our Planet. She addressed the students of Hindustan International School Guindy in an enthralling session which included a presentation and Talk by the Child Activist followed by a Interactive Session in which numerous questions were asked by Students, Staff and invited Guests as to how a common man can contribute in this noble cause.
Ms Licypriya Kangujam (born on 2 October 2011) is an Indian schoolgirl, who at the of age 7, began rising her voice about the need for immediate action to combat climate change and disaster risks reduction and has since become an outspoken climate activist. She is known for having initiated ‘The Child Movement’ to protect the planet earth by tackling climate change and natural disasters that formed in June 2018 and surged globally after the United Nations Global Platform for Disaster Risks Reduction 2019 (GPDRR2019) in May 2019.
Her personal activism began in June 2018, when her activism “The Child Movement” raising her voice in New Delhi to enact a Climate Change laws began attracting serious media coverage. She stood alone in front of the Indian Parliament House on 21st June 2019 drawing the attention of Hon’ble Prime Minister Mr.Modi and MPs to pass the Climate Change Law which is now a focus of Global attention.
Ms Licypriya Kangujam has been invited to several national & international events and has visited a total of 18 countries so far as a part of her movement. She is the youngest Indian at the age of 7 years featuring United Nations Headquarter, New York as one of the strongest young climate activist of the World amongst other 7 activists including Greta Thunberg of Sweden during of the UN General Assembly 2019 in “Fighting for a Stolen Future”. On 4th November 2019, she invented a symbolic device called “SUKIFU” (Survival Kit for the Future) as a solution for air pollution.
She also organized the biggest climate protest in Africa at Luanda City, Angola on 22nd September & also the biggest rural climate protest (Great October March 2019) on 29th October in Odisha, with thousands of supporting voices across the world.
She received the prestigious ‘Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam Children Award 2019’, ‘India Peace Prize 2019’, & also the ‘World Children Peace Prize 2019’. She is the Youngest Green Activist of the World. She was also awarded with the title “Rising Star” by Earth Day Network headquarters based in Washington DC, USA. She is often called as “Climate Warrior of the East”, “India’s Greta Thunberg” and Indian“Child Wonder”. Besides activism, she loves sports mainly Boxing & Swimming and also dreams to become a space scientists in the future. Her uncle Mr. Chinglensana Kangujam is also the Vice – Captain of the Indian National Hockey Team.
