The International Plastic Bag Free Day

The International Plastic Bag Free Day is observed on July 3 annually. The day is observed to raise awareness about the grave issues of plastic pollution and the serious threat that it poses to the natural environment ranging from land to marine life. As plastic bags take around 100-500 years to decompose, it creates land pollution as it is dumped in landfills and proves hazardous to the marine animal if it gets washed into oceans. So, it becomes imperative to raise an alarm against the ill effects of single-use plastic bags.

We at HISK celebrated the day by organizing various awareness programs. Grade 1-5 children were sensitized with help of a PPT on the “Hazards of using the plastic and plastic bags” and the effects of the same in our environment. Students spoke about the pollution caused by plastic on Land, Water and in the atmosphere. Grade 6-8 had an activity of “Slogan Writing” where they had put their thoughts in words and pictures. This day was a great opportunity for us to sow the seed of “Environmental Awareness” in the little hearts.
