Hindustan International School, Karapakkam Empowering Young Voices, Shaping Global Futures
Honorary Consul of Iceland Kumar Sitaraman inaugurates Third Edition of the School’s SDG-themed Model United Nations
CHENNAI, 6 November 2026 – Hindustan International School (HIS), Karapakkam, organised the HIS Global Conclave 2026 – Edition 3 on 6 November 2026, bringing together approximately 100 Student delegates for a day of diplomacy, debate and international affairs. Centred on the theme “Fostering Global Dialogue for a Better Future,” the Model United Nations (MUN) conference gave young minds a platform to deliberate on pressing global challenges through the framework of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
Mr. Kumar Sitaraman, Honorary Consul of Iceland, was the Chief Guest. Mr. Sitaraman has headed the Consulate of Iceland in Chennai since 2012, with jurisdiction over all states and union territories of South India. He addressed the young delegates and was felicitated by Ms. Tiya Liz Jacob, Management Executive, HIS.
Also present on the dais were Lieutenant General Bobby Mathews, Executive Director; Dr. Manoharan, Director – Projects and International Student Services, Hindustan Group of Institutions; and Mr. Johnson Mathew, Dean – Academics.
The conference was declared open by the Secretary General – Ashwanth Hariharan
A distinctive feature of the Conclave is the involvement of HIS alumni, who return every year to serve as Chairpersons and Vice-Chairpersons. The tradition keeps former Students closely connected with their School, lets them mentor the present batch of delegates, and reflects the institution’s enduring bond with its alumni and its commitment to fostering relationships that extend well beyond the School years.
The deliberations encouraged Students to research complex issues, understand diverse perspectives, negotiate solutions, and develop critical thinking, public speaking and diplomatic skills. Outstanding performances were recognised through awards including Best Delegate, High Commendation, Special Mention and Verbal Mention, celebrating delegates who demonstrated exceptional preparation, confidence and leadership.
The Conclave reaffirmed the School’s commitment to integrating the SDGs into meaningful learning experiences and empowering Students to become informed, responsible and globally conscious citizens. By bringing alumni back every year and partnering with KCG College of Technology and its MUN Committee, HIS continues to strengthen a collaborative community of School, college and alumni
