National Handloom Day

Every year National Handloom Day is celebrated on 7th of August. KCG College of Technology (School of Fashion Technology), observed National Handloom Day on 13th August 2022. The programme commenced with an introductory speech on “The History and Significance of Indian Handloom”. Followed by Tamil Thai Vazhthu and Welcome Address by Dr P DeivaSundari Principal – KCG College of Technology. Mr J R Pannirselvam (Textile Faculty) addressed the gathering on “Conserving the Cultural Tradition of Handloom”, followed by a Classical dance and a Musical Tableau on Culture and Methodology of Weaving. Mr Karunakaran , the Chief Guest, enriched us with the importance of Gandhi’s way of living and demonstrated the usage of Charkha. Dr Anita Manuel, Dean Student Affairs expressed her thoughts on the traditional fabrics and created awareness on handloom products. Dr Bhanu Rekha , Head of the Department –School of Fashion Technology, finally delivered the Vote of Thanks. The students experienced how to weave on the handloom Machine and they learnt the importance of preserving our handlooms and of supporting our local weavers and artisans.
