WORLD POPULATION DAY

“Creating Generations of Peacemakers”

A Special Assembly was conducted at HIS, Karapakkam to celebrate the “World Population Day”. Students presented a short skit which dealt with the reasons for the population increase. There is a huge population explosion around the globe. It is reported that every 12 years, another billion people are added to the globe’s population.”

The students expressed their deep concern and care for the healthy growth and safety of the human race. They showcased the consequences of the population explosion that included food and water shortage, war and social conflict and depletion of natural resources.

The Principal was extremely contented to see the active participation and to hear the concern of young generation towards ‘population explosion’. She remarked, “ The aim of conducting this special assembly is to spread awareness about the dire consequences of population explosion. The natural resources may deplete if there would be a huge growth in population and so it is we who need to serve humanity by encouraging sustainable development through the judicious use of natural resources.”

The students linked the menace of population increase with issues like poverty, unemployment, lack of education and accommodation. Family planning is not only a matter of human rights but is also central to women’s empowerment, reducing poverty and achieving sustainable growth. Students of Grade-X gave a speech about the “ Nine standards to uphold the human rights to family planning “which include:  Non-discrimination, Available, Accessible,  Good quality, Informed decision-making, Privacy, and confidentiality, Participation, & Accountability.
