Nutrition Week – AY 2023-24

Every year Hindustan International School, Karapakkam observe Nutrition Week from the 1st of September to create awareness on Healthy habits for good nutrition . This year too we had a plethora of activities planned and executed by students , guided by the Teachers . Keeping in mind the  theme declared by UN for this year as the “Year of Millets ‘ and for India –Healthy diet – affordable for all” emphasizing  on the importance of access to healthy diet for everyone, the events were planned . Ms Sangeetha Mohan , HOD, Home Science spearheaded the entire event.

FOODATHON 2023 -Day 1 (01.09.23)

Students of grades XI/XII along with the Educators were involved for the day and the learning was immense. It was a day of multidisciplinary learning – of organizing, budgeting, accounting, creativity, food safety, and nutritional knowledge of food, communication, skill development, problem solving and much more)

Learning Outcomes –

  • Students learnt the actual Merchandise Process (Purchasing, Manufacturing, Promoting and Selling) of the products in the target group.
  • Students experienced the conceptual terminologies like – Peak Load/ Dovetailing and Critical thinking skills.
  • There was an interest created amongst Students also created in thinking towards startup ventures( Entrepreneurial skills )
  • The significance of Teamwork and cooperation

2.SPELL MILLET Grades (1- V)

 Millets and nutrition based words were given in prior .Students were tested with words related to Millets. They not only learnt spellings but also the importance of eating right to being healthy. 

3.MILLET QUIZ – Grades (VI – VIII)

A quiz with multiple rounds such as picture, audio and video were conducted with the theme” Millets” and its health benefits

4.Food Photography

Students of the Photography Club took part in the Food photo contest.

5.SLOGAN – LITERARY  CLUB

The theme “Magic Millet” got the best of students’ creativity. Short and meaningful slogans were made by the students

Visit to Government School to create and share awareness on Healthy Eating Habits -Day 3 (05.09.23)

The students demonstrated the importance of a healthy, hygiene and balanced diet. The play and humorous act left the students with thoughts to carry home the message of the need for a balanced diet. Heavenya ,  a grade 8 student expressed her views on “ the celebration of National Nutrition Week 2023 in India”. This year, the theme of the nutrition week is “Healthy Affordable Diet for All”. The students of grade 8 and 9 sang  Villadichampaatu, which is an ancient form of musical story-telling method. The children narrated the merits of taking nutritious food and how it safeguards us from various diseases. They insisted not to be carried away with fast food and its artificial flavor’s. A small  quiz was conducted as reinforcement which would instill the very thought of eating healthy , balanced food. Topics such as minerals , vitamins, components of food were discussed.

Industrial Visit to Taj Coromandel – Day 4  (06.09.23)

 As part of the  Home Science curriculum and the ongoing Nutrition Week , the students had the opportunity to visit one of the most prestigious and renowned luxury hotels in Chennai, Taj Coromandel and learn about Hospitality Management and the way the entire Hospitality industry works .The  purpose of this visit was to gain insights into the world of hospitality and it’s various aspects with the guidance of Mr. Anurag Mahapatra – Director –Learning and Development –Taj Coromandel.
