Tolerance

Tolerance

“An eye for an eye makes the whole world blind”- was said by none other than the great soul Mahatma Gandhi Ji.

How true!! We see this especially when more and more lines are drawn in the sand and we convince ourselves that we are better than others. In other words, problems arise when there is a lack of effort or desire to understand and work on common ground rather than highlighting the differences that we may have.

In an age where the Electronic Media has drawn us closer together into what is called a Global Village, or a Global Society, hatred emerges, Then we must accept that this is a not progress, but is something that will take us towards detrimental results. Without Tolerance and Harmony the lasting peace of society cannot be maintained and loyalty for each other cannot be established. Lack of tolerance leads to fighting, violence and finally it destroys the very fibre of Society that holds it together. When people fail in their arguments they become intolerant and use force and aggression to support their point of view.

The World is full of diversity and that is the beauty of our universe. If there had not been any diversity the world would appear boring and unattractive, without any competition. To celebrate and bring awareness the worldwide celebration of the International Day for Tolerance was an annual observance declared by UNESCO in 1995. This highlights the dangers of Intolerance and helps people to understand the importance of Tolerance. The President of UAE has proclaimed the year 2019 to be “The Year of Tolerance”

Tolerance is being Patient, Understanding and denotes Acceptance of everything that is different. Tolerance is not a weakness: It does not mean ‘giving in’.
